The Canadian Mining Credentials Program provides all industry players with comprehensive, objective ways to verify the skills, knowledge and experience of workers, target training requirements, and enable workers from other industries to make smooth transitions to jobs in the Canadian mining industry. In fact, the potential uses of program components
are virtually limitless and promise to transform the way the entire industry recruits, trains and retains workers.

Industry-wide Benchmarks for Mining Jobs The program's National Occupational Standards establish industry-wide benchmarks on which to verify the skills, knowledge and experience of current workers from companies and sites throughout the mining industry. The National Occupational Standards also include specific measures to gauge the competencies of new workers and entry-level workers from other industry sectors and countries. |
 |
Portable Credentials for Mining Workers The CMCP Certification Program enables industry workers to gain portable credentials that are recognized by industry employers throughout the country. These credentials, which belong to the certified workers themselves, provide a way to demonstrate, and for employers to verify, their skills in a variety of mining occupations. The Worker Certification System also includes mechanisms for prior-learning assessments and foreign-credentials recognition—vital tools that make it possible for mining companies to quickly access and employ workers from outside the industry and outside of Canada. |
 |
Consistent, Proven, Benchmarked Training for New and Current Workers Colleges, universities and training institutions can use the National Occupational Standards to develop training programs and curricula accredited by the mining industry. Training that emerges as a result of the program's CMCP Training Accreditation Program will enable new workers to acquire the skills necessary to assume entry-level positions in the industry, and provide workers now in the industry with proven programs to upgrade existing skills |
